Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Phoenix Rise Against Eagles

MORRISTOWN, NJ - After two straight losses the Phoenix rose from the ashes and demolished the College of Saint Elizabeth 11-0 today in a NEAC soccer contest. The Phoenix are now 5-5-1 overall and 3-3 in the NEAC. The Eagles' record is now 0-11-1 and 0-5 in the NEAC.

How It Happened: The Phoenix dominated. Less than five minutes into play sophomore Silvio Andrade (Guayaquil, Ecuador) scored the first goal off his own rebound. The Phoenix then proceeded to fire off five more shots in half as many minutes. The Eagles made a brief offensive attack as they answered with two shots, both of which were blocked by the Phoenix defense before they could even go towards the goal. After senior Shayne Ray (Sharptown, Md.) hit a heartbreaker of a shot off the goal post, he finally kicked one into the net (the Phoenix's second goal of the game) off a cross pass from junior Ethan Russ (Honolulu, Hawaii). Ethan Russ then scored the next goal on a penalty kick. Three minutes later at the 17:08 mark Ray scored another goal--this time off a header shot--assisted by junior Aaron Russ (Honolulu). The Eagles got another shot off on goal, but sophomore goalkeeper Dan Perry (London, England) quickly collected the ball.

The period ended 4-0 Phoenix, who out shot the Eagles 23-6 in the first half alone. And as if the first half wasn't enough of a success, the Phoenix came out even harder the second half. Junior Kevin Lysaght (Toms River, NJ.) scored the first goal of the second half on a free kick. Ethan Russ went on to score two more goals, which gave him a hat trick, his second of the season. Freshman Samuel Appiah (Kumasi, Ghana) then scored his first collegiate goal, assisted by senior Martin Alvarez (Greencastle, Pa.). Junior Justin Vizzi (Spotswood, NJ) also scored two goals this game, his less than 10 minutes apart. But it didn't stop there. The Phoenix's last goal came from the foot of freshman Tyler Rothka (Washington, Pa.), who scored his first collegiate goal today as well. The final score was 11-0 Phoenix.

Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix barely gave the Eagles a chance today as they out shot their opponents 45-6, allowing the Eagles no shots in the second half. The Phoenix also had a huge advantage in corner kicks 13-0 over the Eagles. Today five of the Phoenix scored goals, and three of those players scored more than once.

Up Next: The Phoenix play McDaniel College tomorrow, Sunday, October 15, at 2:00 p.m. at home.
