Wildcats Blank Phoenix


WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Wilson College men's soccer team continued North Eastern Athletic Conference play at Penn College this afternoon. The host Wildcats (5-7, 3-1 NEAC) recorded a 1-0 victory over the Phoenix (4-4-1, 2-2 NEAC).

How It Happened: In a match that the Phoenix dominated from a statistical stand point, it was the Wildcats that made an early goal hold up for the rest of the match. The first half featured several changes of possession and the teams traded shots. Freshman Silvio Andrade (Guayaquil, Ecuador) tried to get the Phoenix on the board in the first two minutes as he fired the games first shot in goal, but the Wildcats keeper tallied the save. Near the midpoint of the first half a header shot by the Wildcats hit the post but the rebound came to another Wildcats player who headed it in for a 1-0 lead. The Phoenix would take three more shots in the half but could not connect. During the second half, the Phoenix defense dominated the physical match and while the Wildcats had more yellow cards in the half (6) than they did shots (0), the Phoenix offense could not break through as the Wildcats keeper collected seven saves during the second half. 

Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix out shot the Wildcats 17-8 and also held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper Dan Perry (London, England, Okanagan Secondary) had 3 saves. Junior's Aaron Russ (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Ethan Russ (Honolulu, Hawaii, Radford) combined for 7 shots on goal.
