Chargers Stampede Past Phoenix

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's soccer team hosted Lancaster Bible College in North Eastern Athletic Conference action this afternoon. The Chargers (9-8-2, 6-2-1) used a pair of goals in the final twelve minutes to rally past the Phoenix (6-8-2, 4-5-0) by a final score of 4-3.

How It Happened: In the opening half, the Phoenix had the first opportunity to score as junior Aaron Russ (Honolulu, Hawaii) fired a shot that hit the post and bounced away in the thirteenth minute. The Chargers got on the board just after the twenty minute mark as Caleb Nelson hit a shot the ricocheted off the right post and in to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Less than five minutes later the Chargers struck again, this time with a shot from 25 yards out as the Phoenix goalkeeper was out of the box. The Phoenix answered just before the half as junior Oliver Perry (London, England, Okanagan Secondary) gathered a loose ball in front of the goal and knocked it in to bring the hosts within 2-1 at the break. In the second half, the Phoenix used a penalty kick from junior Kevin Lysaght (Toms River, NJ., Toms River North) to tie the game at 2-2 in the fifty-seventh minute. A few minutes later the Phoenix scored again as the Chargers couldn't clear their half of the field and Aaron Russ found sophomore Luis Cevallos (Guayaquil, Ecuador, Logos Academy) in the middle and he beat the keeper to the right for a 3-2 Phoenix lead. As the game neared the final twelve minutes the Chargers got a pair of goals in less than two minutes to take a 4-3 lead. The Phoenix didn't have an answer and the Chargers held on for the 4-3 victory.

Inside the Box Score: The Phoenix held a 12-6 advantage in shots on goal and an 11-4 edge in corner kicks. Lysaght's goal was his fourth on the season which is good for second on the team.
