Eagles Swoop Past Phoenix


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College women's volleyball team hosted the College of Saint Elizabeth in North Eastern Athletic Conference action this afternoon at the Gannett Memorial Field House. The visiting Eagles (9-14, 4-4 NEAC) topped the Phoenix (1-14, 1-7 NEAC) 3-0 by scores of 25-17, 25-22, and 25-9.

How It Happened: In the opening set the teams played back and forth before the Eagles pulled away late. The Phoenix made a few more errors in the set which contributed to the Eagles taking the set 25-17. The second set was a tight battle the whole way through as the Phoenix nearly pulled out the win, but the Eagles tallied three more kills in the set and went on for the 25-22 win. Set number three was all Eagles as the pulled away early and only committed two errors in the set en route to the 25-9 victory.

Inside the Box Score: For the match, the Phoenix had 19 kills against 21 errors on 100 total attempts for a -.020 attacking percentage while the eagles had 27 kills against 11 errors on 95 attempts for a .168 attacking percentage. Sophomore Laury Jean Baptiste (Fort Lauderdale, Fl., Coconut Creek) had a match high 15 kills to go along with 2 blocks for the Phoenix. Freshman Leslie Farnes (Coconut Creek, Fl., Coral Springs) had a team high 11 assists while adding 9 digs. Freshmen Sierra Hill (Hagerstown, Md., South Hagerstown) and Delaney Keown (Margate, Fl., Coconut Creek) each had 11 digs for the Phoenix.

Up Next: Wilson is back in action on Monday as they visit Elizabethtown College at 7:00 p.m.
