Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Phoenix, Eagles Battle to Tie

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Regulation and two overtimes weren't enough as the Wilson College men's soccer team and Juniata College played to a 2-2 tie. The Phoenix (5-6-2) and the Eagles (1-10-4) battled under the lights on this chilly evening.

How It Happened: The action got started quickly as the Eagles put the first goal on the board just over five minutes into the match. Just before the midway point of the half, the Eagles stretched their lead to 2-0 as Jacob Grove, who assisted on the first Eagles goal, found the back of the net. The Phoenix quickly responded as sophomore Silvio Andrade (Guayaquil, Ecuador) netted his third goal of the season with an assist from junior Ethan Russ (Honolulu, Hawaii, Radford) to cut the deficit to 2-1. As the Phoenix defense tightened up, the offense was able to take advantage as seniors Shayne Ray (Sharptown, Md., Mardela) and Jesse Smith (Kingston, Jamaica, Kingston College) hooked up to tally Smith's first goal of the season which tied the match at 2-2. In the second half, both teams had scoring opportunities, the first came for the Eagles on a corner kick that went just high. Less than two minutes later, junior Aaron Russ (Honolulu, Hawaii) ripped a shot that hit the crossbar in the seventy-fifth minute. Both teams put two more shots on goal in the final fifteen minutes, but both goalkeepers notched saves and the teams headed to overtime. Neither team put a shot on goal in the first overtime session and the teams headed to overtime number two. Sophomore goalkeeper Dan Perry (London, England, Okanagan Secondary) collected two saves in the second overtime as the teams settled for a hard fought 2-2 tie.

Inside the Box Score: Both teams took 15 shots in the match with the Eagles holding a slight 7-5 edge in shots on goal. The Phoenix held a 7-6 advanatage in corner kicks and Perry Recorded 5 saves in goal.
