Phoenix Roll By Vixens

SWEET BRIAR , Va. - An offensive explosion by the Wilson College field hockey team led to a season high 7 goals on the road against Sweet Briar College. The Phoenix (6-4) defeated the Vixens (0-7) by a score of 7-0.

How It Happened:  It took less than four minutes for the Phoenix to get on the board as freshman Kailey Mixell (Gettysburg, Pa., Gettysburg)hit the back of the cage with an assist from junior Payton Dziemburski (Rising Sun, Md., Rising Sun). Over the next six minutes, the Phoenix continued to pepper the Vixens goalkeeper with seven shots on goal, but none of them got through until freshman Michaela Singer (Annville, Pa., Annville-Cleona) took a pass from senior Miranda Long (Catawissa, Pa., Southern Columbia) and rattled the back of the cage for a 2-0 Phoenix lead. Just over a minute later, Singer and Long hooked up again as Singer scored her second goal on the right side putting the visitors ahead 3-0 before the midway point of the half. Freshman Breanna McMaster (Littlestown. Pa., Littlestown) tallied her first collegiate goal in the twenty-second minute increasing the Phoenix lead to 4-0. Mixell would round out the first half scoring for the Phoenix with a late goal as the team enjoyed a comfortable 5-0 lead at the break. The Phoenix offense continued to dominate the ball in the second half. Freshman Allison Reber (Narvon, Pa., Garden Spot) notched her first collegiate goal pushing the lead to 6-0. Later in the half, Long would tally the final goal for the Phoenix making it a 7-0 match. The defense was strong the entire match and didn't allow a shot to the Vixens in the second half.
