Wildcats Edge Phoenix in Men's Hoops

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team hosted North Eastern Athletic Conference foe Penn College of Technology this afternoon. The visiting Wildcats won a 76-75 thriller over the Phoenix.

The Phoenix opened the game hot from the floor. With the score tied at 6-6, the Phoenix went on a 12-2 run to grab their biggest lead of the game at 18-8. During the run the Phoenix got back to back three-pointers from freshman
Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx, Forest Park), a three-point play by junior Martez Beckett (Randallstown, Md., Chapelgate Christian), and finished it off with a three-pointer by junior Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley). But a 9-1 run by the Wildcats pulled them within 1 point at 18-17 with just under twelve minutes to play in the opening half. The Phoenix would answer with an 8-0 run that featured another three-pointer by Adams, a three-pointer from senior Marquis Nelson (Hagerstown, Md. , Edison High School ) and a bucket by junior Marquise Beckett (Randallstown, Md. , Chapelgate Christian ) to push the lead to 26-17. Battling for the remainder of the half, the Wildcats pulled within 3 points at 40-37 as the teams headed to the break.

Play remained tight throughout the second half. The Wildcats grabbed their largest lead of the game at 56-47 with thirteen minutes remaining but the Phoenix would battle back. After chipping away at the deficit for most of the half the Phoenix pulled within 2 points late when Adams stole the ball at mid-court and finished with a one-handed slam at the other end making the score 72-70 with 3:42 left in regulation. Nelson followed with a jumper to tie things up at 72-72 with 2:30 to go. A pair of Wildcat free throws gave the visitors a 74-72 lead but a layup by Bean knotted the game back up at 74-74 with 33 seconds left. Again, the Wildcats hit a pair of free throws with 11 seconds left to go ahead 76-74. Sophomore
Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra) drew a foul for the Phoenix with less than 4 seconds on the clock. He knocked down the first one to make it 76-75. The second free throw came up short but Adams collected the offensive rebound and got the ball to Nelson who put up a baseline jumper as time expired that just missed and the Wildcats held on for a 75-76 victory.

The Phoenix offense was paced by Bean for the second straight game as he had a game high 29 points and added 6 boards. Adams collected his fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Frazier was the only other Phoenix in double digits with 12 points while adding 5 rebounds.

Wilson will return to action on Tuesday when Penn State Abington visits at 8:00 p.m.
