Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Saint Elizabeth Soars Past Women's Hoops

CHAMBERSBURG, PA. - In today's North Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball contest, Wilson took a loss against the College of Saint Elizabeth 92-48.

The Eagles (5-4, 3-1 NEAC) played strong defense the first quarter making it hard for the Phoenix to get on the scoreboard. Sophomore Jordyn Day (Richmond, Va) was first to get on the scoreboard for the Phoenix (2-6, 0-4 NEAC) with a three-pointer. Despite putting shots up, the Phoenix closed the first quarter with six points to the Eagles 24 after the Eagles had an eight-point scoring streak. During the second quarter, the Phoenix were able to push past the Eagles defense to get more baskets and close in on the point margin. Sophomore Amber Watkins (Honesdale, Pa) put up two good jump shots for the Phoenix, and Day had nine points in the second quarter alone.

The third quarter began 45-22 in favor of the Eagles. For the Phoenix, sophomore Lindsey Purvis (Fort Myers, Fl) had back-to-back lay-ups, but was answered by the Eagles' Danesha Triplett with a lay-up of her own. Fifteen seconds later, Day hit a three-pointer to add to the Phoenix's score. The home team gained momentum in the third quarter and scored 14 to the Eagles 18. Unfortunately, the Phoenix were not able to close the point gap in the fourth quarter, and the Eagles pulled farther ahead. Phoenix sophomore Ashley Henderson (Upper Marlboro, Md.) scored a three-point shot from left court, and freshman Kristen Burdo (Norristown, Pa.) gave the Phoenix the last bucket of the game with a nice jump shot, putting the score to 92-48 in favor of the visitors.

Day led the Phoenix with 23 points overall and 5 three-pointers. Purvis was the second leading scorer with 7 points and 8 rebounds. The Eagles were led by Jasmine Poole and Danesha Triplett, who had 12 points each.

With the loss, the Phoenix go to 2-6 overall and 0-4 in NEAC play while the Eagles move up to 5-4 overall and 3-1 in the NEAC.

The Phoenix return to the court at home tomorrow, Sunday, January 8 with a 12:00 p.m. tip-off against The Pennsylvania College of Technology.
