Bison Roam Past Phoenix

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Wilson College men's basketball team faced of against Gallaudet University in a North Eastern Athletic Conference game. The Bison defeated the Phoenix by a score of 88-68.

The Phoenix (4-12, 4-8 NEAC) grabbed an early 5-4 lead over the Bison (14-3, 12-0 NEAC) on a layup by freshman
Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx, Forest Park)and a three-point basket by sophomore Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra). A 15-2 run by the Bison followed putting the hosts ahead by 12 points at 19-7, but a three-pointer by junior Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley) cut the lead to single digits at 19-10 at the midway point of the half. Late in the half, after the Bison had pushed their lead to as many as 15 points, the Phoenix battled back and pulled within 8 points after a pair of buckets by Frazier and Bean, but, the Bison would go on an 8-0 run to take a 16 point advantage. The Phoenix closed out the half with a pair if free throws each from senior Marquis Nelson (Hagerstown, Md. , Edison High School ) and Adams to trail by 12 points at 41-29 at the half.

Opening the second half with some hot shooting, the Phoenix tried to get back into the game. The Phoenix scored 11 points in the first three minutes on a pair of three-pointers by Frazier, a bucket by Nelson and a three-pointer by Adams, but the Bison answered every basket the Phoenix made. A free throw by junior
Marquise Beckett (Randallstown, Md. , Chapelgate Christian ) with just over 13 minutes to go would pull the Phoenix within 9 points, but they would get no closer as the Bison eventually grew their lead to 20 points with five minutes left in the game and the Bison would finish the game with an 88-68 win.

Despite double digit scoring efforts from Adams (19), Bean (11), Frazier (16) and sophomore
Dominique Walker (Smyrna, DE, St. Thomas More Academy) (10), the Phoenix had no answer for the inside game of the Bison as the hosts held a strong 54-28 advantage in points in the paint.
