Women's Hoops Clawed by Wildcats

CHAMBERSBURG, PA - Today the Wilson College women's basketball played NEAC opponent SUNY Polytechnic, who are undefeated in the conference. The Phoenix fell to the visiting Wildcats 97-59.

The Phoenix (2-13, 0-11 NEAC) held onto the lead for the first five minutes until a three pointer from the Wildcats (12-1, 7-0 NEAC) Stevie Ray tied the game 7-7. The Wildcats would remain in the lead for the rest of the contest. Sophomore Lindsey Purvis (Fort Myers, Fl) was productive in the first quarter, scoring six points. Purvis scored the last bucket of the first with only four seconds left, a lay-up with the assist coming from sophomore Jordyn Day (Richmond, Va). At the beginning of the second quarter the Wildcats were up 30-15. After a lay-up from sophomore Ashley Henderson (Upper Marlboro, Md.), Day made an impressive steal off the Wildcats Talyor Aybar who was one of the team's leading scorers with 22 points. The half ended 57-28 Wildcats.

In the third quarter, which closed out 82-40 Wildcats, Henderson contributed a jump shot and a lay-up to the Phoenix's tally. The Phoenix outscored the Wildcats 19-15 in the fourth quarter, the first of those 19 points coming off a lay-up from freshman Kristen Burdo (Norristown, Pa.), who also had a steal off Shannon Harrison. Day tallied her third three-pointer for the game. The contest ended 97-59 in favor of the visiting Wildcats.

Purvis led the Phoenix offense with 21 points and 7 boards. Day tallied 16 points, and Henderson had 9 points and 8 boards. The Wildcats leading scorers were Taylor Aybar and Kristaijah Jackson with 22 points each. Jackson had a double-double consisting of 22 points and 10 rebounds.

With the win the Wildcats' record moves to 12-1 overall. They remain undefeated in the NEAC 7-0 for the season. The Phoenix's record moves to 2-13 overall, 0-11 in the NEAC.

The Phoenix travel to Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, January 24, for a 5:00 p.m. against Gallaudet University.
