Men's Basketball Stopped by Fighting Tigers

CHAMBERSBURG, PA - The Wilson College men's basketball team played a conference contest against SUNY Cobleskill that ended 82-81 in overtime in favor of the Fighting Tigers.

Sophomore Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa.) hit a three-pointer for the first bucket of the game. The Phoenix (4-10, 4-6 NEAC) would maintain the lead for the first ten minutes of the half, until a lay-up from Mailk Chambers gave the Fighting Tigers (2-11, 2-5 NEAC) the lead 13-12. The Phoenix continued to be productive throughout the half, as a defensive rebound from Frazier led to a lay-up from sophomore Dominique Walker (Smyrna, DE). Freshman Rashaan Bean got a board for the Phoenix and scored a three-pointer less then 30 seconds later. The Fighting Tigers maintained the lead for the rest of the half and put the Phoenix behind by 11 with score of 38-27. However, the Phoenix played aggressively, tallying four steals and 14 boards for the half.

The Phoenix started down in the second half, but gained on their opposition by scoring 46 points to the Fighting Tigers' 35. A minute in, senior Marquis Nelson (Hagerstown, Md.) scored a three-pointer. He would be next to score a field goal for the Phoenix in the paint with a lay-up. After a turnover from Cobleskill, junior Marquise Beckett (Randallstown, Md.) scored a three-pointer, putting the Phoenix just six points behind the Tigers. A series of lay-ups and free-throws from Frazier, capped off by a three-pointer, closed the Tigers' lead to 64-58. A lay-up from Nelson tied the game with 29 seconds left in regulation.

The Phoenix gained the lead three times in overtime, but a lay-up from the Fighting Tigers' Joel Costello gave the visitors the win 82-81.

With the loss the Phoenix move to 4-10 overall and 4-6 in the conference. The Fighting Tigers move up to 2-11 overall and 2-5 in the NEAC.
