Phoenix Fall Short at Saint Elizabeth

MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The Wilson College men's basketball team wrapped up a stretch of six games in nine days with a North Eastern Athletic Conference game at the College of Saint Elizabeth. The host Eagles defeated the Phoenix by a score of 76-58.

The Eagles (3-9, 3-6 NEAC) opened the game on a 12-2 run as the Phoenix (4-9, 4-5 NEAC) only managed one basket in the opening seven minutes. However, back to back three-pointers by junior
Darren Mohamed (Viera, Fla. , SPIRE Institute ) and a jumper by senior Marquis Nelson (Hagerstown, Md. , Edison High School ) pulled the Phoenix within two points at 12-10 with 11:25 to go in the first half. The Eagles eventually grew their lead to 12 points late in the first half, but a pair of layup's to end the half by sophomore Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra) and freshman Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx, Forest Park) pulled the Phoenix with 8 points at 33-25 at the half.

A three-point play by Bean followed by a three-pointer from Frazier and another bucket by Bean pulled the Phoenix to within four points early in the second half at 37-33. Later in the half, after the Eagles had pushed their lead back up to nine points, the Phoenix again battled back and a three pointer by junior
Martez Beckett (Randallstown, Md., Chapelgate Christian), a pair of free throws by Bean and another bucket by Beckett pulled the visitors within 4 points at 44-40 with just over twelve minutes left. The Phoenix would get no closer the rest of the half as the Eagles eventually pushed their lead to 18 points and went on for the 76-58 win.

Bean led the Phoenix offense with his second straight double-double with 17 points and 16 rebounds, while Frazier added a season high 13 points.

Wilson will be back in action on Saturday at home versus SUNY Cobleskill at 1:00 p.m.
