Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Phoenix Slowed by Wildcats

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team continued their busy start to the new year with a North Eastern Athletic Conference clash at Penn College. The Wildcats defeated the Phoenix by a score of 73-67.

For the second time in seven days the Wildcats (5-8, 3-5 NEAC) got another close victory over the Phoenix (4-8, 4-4 NEAC), having won early this week in Chambersburg by one point. This game featured some pretty large swings in momentum as the Phoenix led by as many as 9 points in the first half and the Wildcats led by as many as 18 points in the second half. The Phoenix used a 12-2 run near the midpoint of the first half to take a 16-7 lead highlighted by 7 straight points from sophomore
Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra). However a 17-2 run by the Wildcats over an eight minute span put them ahead 27-21 with five minutes to go in the half. A three-pointer by senior Marquis Nelson (Hagerstown, Md. , Edison High School ) and a bucket by freshman Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx, Forest Park) pulled the Phoenix within 33-32, but the hosts would score the final 4 points of the session to take a 37-32 lead at the break.

A 9-0 run to open the second half by the Wildcats pushed their lead to 14 points, a lead that would eventually grow to 18 points at 61-43 with 8 minutes remaining. A furious 15-2 rally by the Phoenix ensued as the team got buckets from junior's
Marquise Beckett (Randallstown, Md. , Chapelgate Christian ) and Martez Beckett (Randallstown, Md., Chapelgate Christian), Nelson, and Bean to make the score 63-58 with 2:20 to go. A huge four-point play by Frazier with 55 seconds to go pulled the Phoenix within 3 points. After a pair of Wildcat free throws, Nelson knocked down another three-pointer to bring the Phoenix within 2 points at 69-67 with 36 seconds remaining. The Wildcats would go 4-for-4 at the line down the stretch to put the game away and take the 73-67 win.

For the game the Wildcats held a 46-26 edge on the boards which led to a 17-5 advantage in second chance points. The Phoenix offense was led by Bean who posted a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Nelson added 12 points.

Wilson will be back on the court tomorrow at the College of Saint Elizabeth at 2:00 p.m.
