Phoenix Tame Lions in Men's Hoops

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team took on North Eastern Athletic Conference foe Bryn Athyn College tonight at the Gannett Memorial Field House. The Phoenix topped the visiting Lions by a 74-66 margin.

The Phoenix (4-7, 4-3 NEAC) got going from from the opening tip as junior
Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley) won the tip and sophomore Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra) took it in for an uncontested layup. A few minutes later a three-point basket by freshman Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx, Forest Park) put the Phoenix up 8-4 on the Lions (4-7, 2-4 NEAC). The Lions responded with a 7-0 run to take an 11-0 run to grab an 11-8 lead with a little over five minutes gone by in the half. The visitors would push their lead to 8 points but a three-point basket by Adams would pull the Phoenix within 5 points at the midway point of the half. Another three-pointer by Adams and 4 straight points by Bean put the Phoenix back in front 22-21. Both teams would continue to trade buckets the rest of the half and a jumper by senior Marquis Nelson (Hagerstown, Md. , Edison High School ) with thirty seconds to go put the Phoenix ahead 32-30 at the break.

Mirroring much of the first half, the teams battled and trade baskets for most of the opening ten minutes. An old fashioned three-point play by Frazier with an assist from junior
Martez Beckett (Randallstown, Md., Chapelgate Christian) put the home team up 43-42. Senior Kasdan Holder (Zebulon, N.C., East Wake) followed with a bucket of his own to push the lead to 45-42. A few minutes later the teams exchanged three-pointers, with Frazier tying the game up at 51-51 with 9:06 left. Adams would follow with a three of his own and the Phoenix grabbed a lead they would never relinquish. Bean finished off a streak of 3 consecutive three-pointers by the Phoenix and Buckets by Nelson and junior Marquise Beckett (Randallstown, Md. , Chapelgate Christian ) gave the Phoenix a 62-51 advantage with 6:15 to go. The Lions would never get closer than 6 points the rest of the way as the Phoenix closed out the game with a 74-66 win.

For the game the Phoenix shot 45% from the field including 10-18 from behind the arc. The team had 16 assists on 26 buckets. Bean led the way in scoring with 20 points while adding 7 rebounds. Adams collected another double-double with 17 points and 13 boards. Frazier added 11 points and 6 assists.
