Hood Blazes by Men's Hoops

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team hosted Hood College ion a non-conference tilt this evening. The Blazers topped the Phoenix by a final score of 96-71.

In a fast paced game that moved up and down the court quickly, the Blazers (7-1) jumped out to a 4-2 lead, but a three-point field goal by junior
Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley) gave the Phoenix (1-6) their first lead at 5-4. The teams traded baskets for the first seven minutes, but it was Adams with the hot hand as he knocked down four consecutive three-points baskets to keep the Phoenix in the game. Freshman Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx, Forest Park) would take over knocking down the three-pointers as he nailed a pair midway through the opening half, the second of which pulled the Phoenix to within 26-22 of the lead. The Blazers would use a 9-3 run to push their lead to 35-25 just before the 5 minute mark, but Adams answered with his fifth three-pointer of the half to cut the lead to single digits. By halftime the Blazers had pushed their lead to 13 points at 45-32. Adams finished the half with 20 points and 8 rebounds.

The Phoenix opened the second half with Adams throwing down an alley-oop dunk, with an assist from sophomore
Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra), that really ignited the crowd. A pair if three-point baskets by junior Martez Beckett (Randallstown, Md., Chapelgate Christian) pulled the Phoenix within 6 points at 46-40 with 18 minutes remaining. The Blazers would then go on a 14-1 run leading to the midway point of the half to push their advantage to 19 points at 60-41. The Phoenix continued to fight and would get as close as 11 points when junior Darren Mohamed (Viera, Fla. , SPIRE Institute ) knocked down one of his 3 three-point baskets on the night with just under 10 minutes remaining. However, the Phoenix would get no closer as the Blazers went on for the 96-71 victory.

For the game the Phoenix shot 42% from the floor. Adams led the way with his second double-double of the season finishing with 29 points and 11 rebounds. Bean and Mohammed both came off the bench to score in double digits with 15 points and 11 points respectively.

Wilson will return to action after the holiday break on January 7 with a NEAC contest versus the College of Saint Elizabeth.
