Women's Basketball Charged by Lancaster Bible

LANCASTER, Pa. - Today the women's basketball team travelled to Lancaster, Pa. for North Eastern Athletic Conference action against Lancaster Bible College. The hosting Chargers defeated the visiting Phoenix 89-59.

The Phoenix scored the first bucket, with a three-pointer from sophomore Ashley Henderson (Upper Marlboro, Md.). Sophomore Jordyn Day (Richmond, Va) also had a three-pointer in the first, and sophomore Lindsey Purvis (Fort Myers, Fl) had a nice lay-up. Kristen Burdo, a sophomore from Norristown, Pa., did good work in the paint for the Phoenix, with six points that quarter alone. But the first quarter ended with the Chargers up 28-14. And while the Phoenix scored first again in the second quarter, this time with a lay-up from Purvis, the half closed out 53-29 in favor of the Chargers.

The Phoenix continued to push against the Chargers in the third period, playing tough defense, but the period ended 71-39 in favor of the hosting team. The fourth period saw an impressive fastbreak in the paint from Purvis, and two fastbreaks from sophomore Amber Watkins (Honesdale, Pa). Yet even though the Phoenix outscored their opponents 20-18 in the fourth, the Chargers took the final victory, 89-59.  

The Phoenix offense was paced by Purvis who had 15 total points, and Day who added 14 points to the scoreboard.

With the loss, the Phoenix move to 3-2, 0-2 in the NEAC  and the Chargers improve to 3-1, 3-0 NEAC.

Wilson will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday, December 4 at 12:00 p.m. at Penn State Berks.
