Nittany Lions Hold Off Phoenix

ABINGTON, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team opened North Eastern Athletic Conference play at Penn State Abington this evening. The Nittany Lions held off the Phoenix for a 73-67 victory.

The Phoenix (0-4, 0-1 NEAC) grabbed the early lead as the team opened the game on a 7-2 run highlighted by a pair of baskets by junior
Keion Adams (Gaithersburg, Md., Seneca Valley). The Nittany Lions (2-2, 1-0 NEAC) claw away at the deficit and eventually take the lead midway through the first half at 15-13. The lead for the hosts would grow to 4 points, but a 3-point basket by senior Marquis Nelson (Hagerstown, Md. , Edison High School ) pulled the Phoenix within one point at 19-18. A layup by sophomore Ian Frazier (Palmyra, Pa., Palmyra) would put the Phoenix back in front 20-19 with 6:15 left in the half. The teams would trade baskets for most of the remainder of the half and a late bucket by the Nittany Lions put them ahead 31-29 at the break.

A 14-3 run by the Nittany Lions to open the second half pushed their lead to 45-32 with just under 15 minutes remaining. Five straight points by Adams, a bucket by freshman
Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, Tx, Forest Park), and a pair of baskets by Nelson pulled the Phoenix within two points at 45-43 with 12 minutes remaining. The Nittany Lions would push the lead back to seven points, but again the Phoenix would respond courtesy of 5 straight points by sophomore Dominique Walker (Smyrna, DE, St. Thomas More Academy) to make the score 54-52 with 7:33 to go. Another run by the Nittany Lions, this time nine straight points pushed the lead to 11 points with five minutes left on the clock. The Phoenix battled down the stretch and pulled within four points, but could not get any closer as the Nittany Lions would close out the game with a 73-67 victory.

Adams led the Phoenix with a double-double of 22 points and 11 boards. Nelson added a season high 14 points and Bean joined them with double digit points, tallying a season high 10 points.

Wilson will be back on the court on Saturday, December 3 at Lancaster Bible College at 3:00 p.m.
