Men's Soccer Loses to SUNY Wildcats

Marcy, N.Y. – The Phoenix traveled to New York today to face-off against the SUNY Poly Wildcats in North Eastern Athletic Conference action. After a tightly contested 90 minutes, the Wildcats defeated the visiting Phoenix 2-0.
 
The first shot of the game came from the Wildcats a little more than a minute in, but it was blocked by the Phoenix defense. The Wildcats took two more shots before Vincent Seruhungu headed the ball in off a corner kick giving the home team a 1-0 lead. Wilson's Oliver Perry (London, England) had a header shot off a corner kick from Effren Amezquita (Xela, Guatemala), but it went wide. Kevin Lysaght (Toms River, Pa.) hammered a shot that went high, and Javier Gonzalez-Sanchez (Madrid, Spain) had two shots on goal, but one was saved by the goalie, and the other was blocked by the Wildcats defense. The first period ended 1-0 in favor of the hosting Wildcats.
 
In the first ten minutes of the second half, the Phoenix offense attacked aggressively, sending six shots in the direction of the Wildcats goalie. The Phoenix's goalkeeper, freshman Dan Perry (London, England), saw his share of shots from the Wildcats, but he defended the net well. He had five saves in the second period. The Wildcats put another goal on the scoreboard before the match ended. Seruhungu took a shot that bounced off the Phoenix's keeper making for an easy tap in. The Phoenix continued to fight, taking four more shots before the period ended, but the final score remained 2-0 in favor of the Wildcats.
 
The Phoenix and the Wildcats were an even 4-4 in corner kicks, and an even 18-18 in shots.

The Phoenix have a make-up game against the SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers October 30th.
