Men's Soccer Claws Tigers in Regular Season Finale

LA PLUME, Pa. - The Wilson College Phoenix played a make-up match against the SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers in North Eastern Athletic Conference action today. It was a tightly contested match, and the Phoenix came out on top, beating their opposition 3-2.
 
The Fighting Tigers (8-8-2, 5-6-2 NEAC) were first to put a goal on the score board, Mame Amar scored weak side off a cross from Emile Vwaza.  The Phoenix (6-9-2, 5-6-2 NEAC) outshot the Fighting Tigers 10-8 overall in the first period. Ethan Russ (Honolulu, Hawaii) led the Phoenix with five shots for the match, and was first to score for the Phoenix. After the Fighting Tigers committed an infraction, Russ took the direct kick and sailed the ball into the net from 22 yards out. That tied the game at 1-1. Javier Gonzalez-Sanchez (Madrid, Spain) put the Phoenix in the lead when he capitalized on a ball that was mishandled by the Fighting Tigers goalie, bringing the Phoenix to a 2-1 lead to close out the first half.
 
The Phoenix maintained their momentum the second half and outshot their opposition again, this time 9-6. Mame Amar scored another goal for the Fighting Tigers on a pass in the box from Emile Vwaza, who had his second assist of the game. That goal put the Fighting Tigers back in contention and tied the game up for the second time, this time at 2-2. The two teams continued to contend for the lead, but freshman Raihan Azim (Auckland, New Zealand) took a penalty kick that was good and sealed the victory for the Phoenix who finished out the match with a 3-2 win over the Fighting Tigers.
 
The Phoenix outshot the Fighting Tigers 19-14. The Tigers enjoyed a 9-7 edge over the Phoenix on corner kicks.
