Men's Soccer Slashes Wildcats

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Wilson College took on the Cazenovia Wildcats today in North Eastern Athletic conference action. The Phoenix triumphed 7-2 over the Wildcats (4-9, 2-7 NEAC).
 
The Phoenix (5-7-2, 4-2-1, NEAC) had the first shot on goal and from that point on, they maintained dominance.  The first goal of the game came from Shane Ray (Sharptown, Md.), who ripped from the left side of the goal into the net. Goal number two was from Javier Gonzalez-Sanchez (Madrid, Spain), with the assist coming from Raihan Azim (Auckland, New Zealand). Ethan Russ (Honolulu, Hawaii) scored goal number three after he dribbled the ball past the keeper, beating him in the box and scoring on a virtually open net. The fourth and last goal of the first half was a header shot from freshman Raihan Azim, right in front of the goal. The Phoenix outshot the Wildcats 9-2 in the first period. At the half, the Phoenix left the field with a 4-0 advantage over the Wildcats.
 
In the second half, it took only a minute for the Phoenix to get another goal on the scoreboard. Senior Jacob Benford (Rockwood, Pa. ) put the ball bottom right int th goal off a penalty kick for the Phoenix at the 46:00 minute mark. Ethan Russ scored his second goal of the game with an assist from Javier Gonzalez-Sanchez who played a beautiful ball from the right side of the field, landing it perfectly in center for Russ to shoot against an open Wildcat defense. The Wildcats got on the scoreboard before the game ended, their first goal of the game coming from Jonathon Cardenas with header shot at just after the 72-minute mark. Two minutes later, the Phoenix's Ethan Russ scored his third goal of the game, giving him a hat trick. The last goal of the game came from the Wildcats, but it was too little to late, and in the end the Phoenix celebrated a 7-2 victory.

The Phoenix had a 7-4 edge in corner kicks over the Wildcats, and outshot them 19-11.
 
The Phoenix return to more NEAC action at home tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. against Morrisville State.
