Phoenix Drop Contest to Bethany, 2-0

Bethany, W.Va. – The Wilson College field hockey team was blanked by Bethany College on Friday evening by a final score of 2-0.   
 
The Bison scored the first goal of the game in the 6th minute of the first half.  Bethany forward Latisha Cuffee struck one past the Wilson defense with the help of a solid pass from teammate Courtney Gill. 
 
Both teams remained quiet the rest of the first half as Wilson was not able to answer back with a goal of its own.  The stat lines were nearly even for both teams in the first portion of the contest.
 
After a scoreless beginning in the second half, Bethany struck again in the 55th minute of play after Bison Courtney Gill scored unassisted to put her team up 2-0 over the Phoenix.   
 
Despite an even style of fight in the first half, the Bison recorded the highs in several offensive categories in the latter part of the game.  Overall Bethany outshot the Phoenix, 6-3.  Bethany also held the advantage in penalty corners with seven. 
 
Seniors Hillary Swartz and Nicole Melanson, along with freshman Miranda Long each recorded a shot.  Freshman Kayla Butts and Emily Sullivan each defended the goal for a half. 
 
The Phoenix continue their road trip and travel to Earlham College tomorrow for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
