(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Looking to win its third game in four days, the Wilson women's soccer team was upended by Lancaster Bible in United East action on Tuesday afternoon. The Phoenix excelled defensively, but a lone Chargers goal in the 41st minute proved to be the difference.
Madison Ebersole (Jr., Big Pool, Md. / Clear Springs) had a career day though as she matched a career-high in saves to keep the Phoenix in contention for the full 90.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 0, Lancaster Bible 1
Venue: Kris's Meadow
Records: Wilson 2-8-1, 1-1-0 UE; Lancaster Bible 3-4-2, 1-0-1
How It Happened
- Although Wilson was outshot in the game, the Phoenix had the first two offensive chances as shots by first year starters Claire Thompson (FY, Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin) and Ashlynn Simmons (FY, Gerrardstown, W.Va. / Musselman) went wide and high, respectively. From there, the Chargers' attack heated up and saw six shots in a 12-minute span with Ebersole making saves on two of them. She added another pair later in the half before LBC broke through in the 41st as Allie Zuber fed Leah Iman.
- In the second half, the LBC attack tested Wilson's back line even more as Ebersole added another pair of saves. Simmons got another good look in the 52nd, but her attempt was saved by LBC keeper Hailey Siedman. LBC controlled the pace for most of the game and kept possession on Wilson's defensive zone, however the Phoenix didn't break and were able to keep the visitors off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
Inside The Numbers
- LBC led the shot count 29-9 overall and 15-2 in shots on goal. Ebersole went the distance for the second time this season and was stellar between the sticks with 13 saves. Wilson had 14 saves on the day with a team save included.
- The baker's dozen by Ebersole matches her previous career-high which was set on October 5, 2024, in a 3-0 win at Bryn Athyn.
