(CHESTERTOWN, Md.) – The Wilson women's volleyball team showed a lot of heart and hustle, but ultimately fell to Washington in three competitive sets on Thursday evening. The Phoenix were neck-and-neck with the Shorewomen at the begging and middle of each frame, but the hosts were able to lock down the match with a strong endgame.

How It Happened
- A block by Alexis Landis (So., Nottingham, Pa. / Octorara) and Alison Daniels (Jr., Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) as well as a Jayda Lichty (FY, Hanover, Pa. / Southwestern) kill gave Wilson two-point leads early in the first before a 9-3 run gave Washington momentum and the advantage with a 13-9 lead. The Blue and White didn't go away quietly and stayed within one as late as 20-19 following another Lichty kill. However Washington was able to close out the first with five consecutive points.
- The Shorewomen jumped out to an 8-2 lead, but Wilson was able to chip away and climb back into contention following Washington miscues. A Landis kill, a pair of Abby Moreland (Sr., Sabillasville, Md. / Catoctin) kills, and a Lichty kill then put the Phoenix within two at 13-11. Each time Washington tried to pull away, Wilson remained within striking distance. A Hannah Pollard (FY, Wilmington, N.C. / Wilmington Christian) block capped a small 3-0 spurt and made it 15-14 in favor of the hosts. The Phoenix were within one at 22-21 after a 4-1 rally before Washington scored the final three for a 2-0 lead.
- In the third, a Moreland kill followed by two more from Lichty tied the set at 7-all. Another Lichty strike squared Wilson up at 8-8. At that time Washington caught fire and scored eight of the next nine. Wilson was able to chip away at the deficit and get within three at 19-16 before the Shorewomen scored five consecutive to help put the match out of reach.

- Lichty led the team with nine kills while hitting .125.
- Defensively Wilson was paced by Moreland and Addie Hebert (Sr., Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg) who had 10 digs each for match-high honors.
- Washington was led by Izzy Diehl with 12 kills. Lyndsey Wessel added 11.
