Lemay, McCoy Receive United East Scholar Athlete Honors for Spring

(LATHAM, N.Y.) – A pair of Wilson Phoenix have received conference honors after the United East announced its Senior Scholar Athlete Award winners for the spring season. This award recognizes a senior who truly represents the student-athlete model by performing in competition, in the classroom and around the community.

The Phoenix honorees are Riley Lemay (Saugerties, N.Y. / Saugerties) for women's lacrosse and Jacob McCoy (York, Pa. / Spring Grove) for men's volleyball.

Lemay has excelled in every aspect of the student-athlete experience at Wilson College. A veterinary nursing-biology major carrying a perfect 4.0 GPA, LeMay has earned the United East Elite 20 Award and Wilson College's Chuck Naso Award, recognizing the institution's female student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA. Her academic accomplishments reflect an unwavering dedication to excellence in the classroom.

As a three-year member of the women's lacrosse program, Lemay has emerged as one of the conference's premier defenders, earning First Team All-United East honors in both 2025 and 2026 while serving as team captain. She has accumulated 98 ground balls and 62 caused turnovers during her career. Beyond athletics, Lemay has served as a leader within the Environmental Club and Campus Activities Board while volunteering with youth educational programs, local animal shelters, the Salvation Army, and youth lacrosse initiatives.

"It is just an honor to coach such a driven and competitive student athlete," said Paul Flohr, head coach of the Phoenix women's lacrosse team. "This award says a lot about the character that Riley shows on the field also happens in the classroom. Riley is a true team leader, teammate, and a role model for us at Wilson. We couldn't be prouder of her accomplishments both on the field and academically and we can't wait to see where she goes in her future endeavors."

McCoy has built an impressive legacy at Wilson College through his achievements in the classroom, on the volleyball court, and in the community. A health and physical education major with a 3.70 GPA and 122 completed credit hours, McCoy has earned CSC Academic All-District honors, United East All-Academic Team recognition, and membership in Chi Alpha Sigma. His commitment to academic excellence has complemented an outstanding collegiate athletic career.

McCoy concluded his career with 663 kills, 181 total blocks, and a .306 hitting percentage, ranking among the top active NCAA Division III players in hitting efficiency. A First Team All-Conference selection in 2025 and Second Team honoree in 2026, he helped Wilson achieve or tie the program record for wins in each of his four seasons. His community involvement includes volunteering with the YMCA, participating in highway cleanup efforts, and working youth basketball camps, demonstrating a commitment to service that extends beyond athletics.

"Jacob McCoy is the heart and soul of our team," said men's volleyball head coach Aaron Hoke. "He is the leader on and off the court and continually sets the standards physically and academically for our team. His leadership and guidance are truly a blessing for us."
