Briggs Brings The Heat As Softball Sweeps Keystone

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Senior Day couldn't have gone much better for Wilson's lone senior Maddy Briggs (Sr., Lock Haven, Pa. / Central Mountain) in Saturday's doubleheader against Keystone. The Phoenix third baseman went a combined 4-for-5 for six RBIs as the Blue and White swept the Giants to remain unbeaten in the United East.

Briggs was honored before the game and proceeded to collect her 100th career hit as well while Wilson scored a pair of walk-off wins to invoke the mercy rule for the victories.

How It Happened (Game 1)
  • Briggs didn't waste any time filling up the stat line as she singled to right center to bring in Emily Randalls (So., Dillsburg, Pa. / Northern York) and Kiera O'Brine (Jr., Dillsburg, Pa. / Northern York) in the bottom of the first. Two innings later Briggs scored on a Jenna Weaver (So., Camp Hill, Pa. / Cedar Cliff) ase hit to left to make it 5-1 in a four-run frame. She wasn't done as in the fourth she singled to right again for another pair of RBIs with Randalls and Katelyn Keller (So., Orrtanna, Pa. / Gettysburg) scoring. Speaking of Keller, she put the finishing touches on the game as her three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth allowed for a walk-off victory.
How It Happened (Game 2)
  • Briggs opened the scoring in the nightcap as well as her at-bat allowed Brooke Leedy (So., Fayetteville, Pa. / Chambersburg) to score after Leedy pinch ran for Alexa Snyder (FY, Clear Spring, Md. / Clear Spring). Addison Woods (FY, North East, Md. / Tome School) followed up with a two RBI double down the third base line to score Sydney Hartle and Keller. Hartle had a two RBI double of her own one inning later to score Keller and O'Brine and make the score 5-0. Hartle came in one batter later when who else but Briggs doubled to left center to make the score 6-0. Taylor Espenshade (FY, Dillsburg, Pa. / Northern York) joined the trend with a two RBI double to score Weaver and Hannah Berger (FY, Rome, Pa. / Northeast Bradford). With the bases loaded, Kayla Talbert (Jr., Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown / Saint Peter's) provided another walk-off hit up the middle to score Espenshade for another walk-off celebration.
Inside The Numbers
  • Rylee Piper (Jr., Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) was masterful as she didn't allow an earn run. She struck out four against five hits and two walks to improve to 6-3.
  • Julie Burger (FY, Baltimore, Md. / Dundalk) received the win in Game 2 after allowing just one hit in the eight batters she faced.
  • Keller was a perfect 5-for-5 with five runs scored on the day.
