(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – It was a tough Saturday for the Wilson baseball team as it fell to Keystone in both games of a United East doubleheader. The Giants scored in all but one inning in the opener to take Game 1. Game 2 saw the Phoenix battle, but the visitors score 11 runs in the seventh to take the nightcap.
The Basics
Scores: Game 1 – Wilson 3, Keystone 15
Game 2 – Wilson 2, Keystone 15
Venue: Henninger Field
Records: Wilson 4-19-1, 3-7 UE; Keystone 19-7, 10-0
How It Happened
- After Keytone plated a pair in the first, Wilson countered with a run as Samuel Martin (Jr., Maugansville, Md. / North Hagerstown / Hagerstown C.C.) scored on an error after Derek Chavera (FY, Falfurrias, Texas / Falfurrias) singled to right. Unfortunately the momentum at the plate remained in tact for the Giants who went on to score in every inning except the sixth. The Phoenix added another run in the fourth as Joe Nawrocki (So., Parkton, Md. / Calvert Hall) doubled in Seth Bivens (Sr., Hancock, Md. / Hancock / Hagerstown C.C.) to make the score 9-2. Garrett Drish (FY, Annapolis, Md. / Broadneck) singled in Charles Musser (Jr., Thurmont, Md. / Linganore) in the seventh to set up the final score.
- Game 2 saw the Phoenix stay within striking distance of the Giants through six innings. After the visitors scored one in the first, Wilson tied it in the second as Bivens scored on a sacrifice fly from Tyler O'Brien (So., Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora). Keystone added one in the fourth and two more in the fifth for a 4-1 lead. Keystone broke the game open in the seventh as the Giants poured in 11 runs on five hits and a pair of errors. Bivens scored again in the bottom half of the frame.
Inside The Numbers
- Bivens was busy on the base paths as he scored three times on the day.
- Martin was solid in the opener as he went 2-for-4 with a run.
