Softball Stays Hot In Sweep of SUNY Delhi

(NORTH MYRTYLE BEACH, S.C.) – The long drive to the Carolina Coast didn't phase the Wilson softball team as it swept SUNY Delhi in a pair of mercy rule shortened games. The Phoenix did so in similar fashion to the previous day's games with the offense posting double digit runs while the battery limited the Broncos' chances.

The Basics

Scores: Game 1 – Wilson 11, SUNY Delhi 3 (5 Innings)
Game 2 – Wilson 12, SUNY Delhi 1 (5 Innings)

Venue: Central Park Sports Complex

Records: Wilson 4-0, SUNY Delhi 0-3

How It Happened (Game 1)
  • Wilson served as the home team for the opener and easily overcame a first inning run by the Broncos with a five-spot in the bottom of the frame on four hits and two Delhi errors. Kiera O'Brine (Jr., Dillsburg, Pa. / Northern) tied the game after Katelyn Keller (So., Orrtanna, Pa. / Gettysburg) drove her in. Two batters later, Keller scored on a base hit by Madison Briggs (Sr., Lock Haven, Pa. / Central Mountain). Kayla Talbert (Jr., Hagerstown, Pa. / North Hagerstown / Saint Peter's) scored on fielder's choice, Briggs scored on a wild pitch, and Alaina Smith (FY, Bellefonte, Pa. / Bellefonte) hit in Jenna Weaver (So., Camp Hill, Pa. / Cedar Cliff) to make it 5-1 after one.
  • The score laid dormant until the fifth when Delhi plated a pair on two hits and an error. The Blue and White made up for it quickly with Keller hitting in Emily Randalls (So., Dillsburg, Pa. / Northern York) and Weaver bringing in Keller and Talbert three batters later. The hits kept coming with O'Brine hitting in Weaver, Addyson Woods (FY, North East, Md. / Tome School) bringing in Brooke Leedy (So., Fayetteville, Pa. / Chambersburg), and Randalls hitting in Caitlin Oliviero (Jr., Wernersville, Pa. / Conrad Weiser) to end the game in walk-off fashion.
How It Happened (Game 2)
  • The bats remained hot as Wilson posted at least three runs in the first three innings. The Phoenix started with three in first with Weaver scoring on a double steal, Randalls scoring on a base hit through the left side by Hannah Berger (FY, Rome, Pa. / Northeast Bradford), and Keller crossing on a Grace Purdum (FY, Annapolis, Md. / Broadneck) sacrifice fly.
  • Four runs followed in the second. Woods brought in the first two on a triple to right center as Weaver and Leedy scored. Woods then scored on a wild pitch. Keller tripled two batters later and scored after Berger advanced to second after a walk.
  • Woods wasn't finished as she doubled in Elena Worthington (Jr., Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg) who singled to center earlier in the inning. Randalls made it 10-0 on a base hit through the right side to score Woods and Leedy.
  • Delhi scored one on three hits in the fourth, but Wilson added a pair to answer in the top of the fifth. Julie Burger (FY, Baltimore, Md. / Dundalk) brought in Oliviero on a base hit to right and Woods scored two batters later to set up the final score.
