The momentum fed into the second where Virginia Wesleyan opened up with a 7-1 lead and maintained the lead for the duration.
- In the third, Virginia Wesleyan went up 6-2 at the start before Wilson used a kill by Zorn and a Wolfe ace to help tie the set back up. The Phoenix stayed as close as 18-16 before the Marlins scored five-straight.
