(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Danica Frushour's (Jr., Westminster, Md. / Westminster) first career goal will certainly be memorable as it was the difference maker in Wilson's United East showdown with Lancaster Bible on Saturday morning. It gave the Phoenix plenty of reasons to celebrate as it was Senior Day for the Blue and White in addition to clinching a spot in the United East Championship tournament.
After the game seniors
Kate Seymour (Churchton, Md. / Southern), Hannah Bost (Manheim, Pa. / Manheim Central), Jade Syto (Newark, Del. / Christiana), and
Olivia Dingzon (Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro) were honored for their time and dedication to the program.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 3, Lancaster Bible 2
Venue: Kris's Meadow
Records: Wilson 5-6, 3-1 UE; Lancaster Bible 5-8, 3-2 UE
How It Happened
- Teams barely had a chance to breath before Wilson got busy lighting up the scoreboard as Seymour scored just 72 seconds into the game. She helped Wilson win a penalty corner and the Phoenix made it count. Ginnah Kendall (So., McConnellsburg, Pa. / Forbes Road) set up the play after receiving the insert and took a hard swing towards the cage. Mikayla Petersen (So., Glen Burnie, Md. / North County) was able to deflect it to the left post where Seymour was waiting to hammer it home.
- Just under eight minutes later, Seymour scored the brace to make it 2-0. Kendall was once again pivotal and picked up the assist as she found Seymour on the left side. This time Seymour went with a tomahawk and found the five hole on the LBC goalkeeper.
- The score remained dormant until late in the third quarter. With 1:44 left in the frame, Kendall found Haley Hamrick (Jr., Taneytown, Md. / Union Bridge) waiting in the circle and Hamrick was able to find Frushour on the left post for the goal.
- Wilson wasn't out of the woods just yet. The Chargers had done well winning penalty corners and eventually broke through in the fourth quarter. After setting up a couple plays where the Chargers lobbed in a shot at Phoenix netminder Erin Sullivan (Jr., Byram, N.J. / Lenape Valley), a third attempt saw Rebekah Hoover deflect in a hard swing by Riley Danko at the top of the circle. Hoover added a second on a Bailey Simmons helper less than five minutes later. Thankfully the Phoenix back line was able to shut down LBC and prevent the visitors from taking another shot the rest of the way.
Inside The Numbers
- Seymour's goals give her seven for the season as well as 14 points.
- Petersen's assist was her second helper of the season and first since the season opener against Sweet Briar.
- Sullivan had another solid day between the sticks with nine saves.
- The Phoenix move to 5-0 all-time against Lancaster Bible.
