How It Happened
- The evening started well as Wilson jumped out to a 4-1 lead thanks to a pair of Jayda Lichty (FY, Hanover, Pa. / Southwestern) kills, another by Hannah Pollard (FY, Wilmington, N.C. / Wilmington Christian), and a Pollard Ashlynn Babbitt (So., Edenton, N.C. / John A. Holmes) block. However, it didn't take long for the Bison to find their footing and answered with a 13-4 run. Gallaudet added a 5-0 run later to take a 23-13 lead en route to an opening set win.
- The second set saw both teams evenly split the first three points before the Bison took advantage with an 8-1 run and kept pulling away. The third went much better for the Blue and White. Another 3-3 split opened up the frame, but this time it was the Phoenix who jumped up with kills from Babbitt and Abby Moreland (Sr., Sabillasville, Md. / Catoctin) to go with a Michaela Windisch (Sr., Westminster, Md. / Catoctin) ace. Another Babbitt kill and an ace from Hayden Davidson (FY, Capon Bridge, W.Va. / Hampshire) helped Wilson go up 10-4. Gallaudet rallied to tie the set at 13-all, and after a Pollard kill, took the lead with the next three points. The defense stepped up and had Riley Cramer (FY, Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg) go up for two blocks, one of which was paired with Sydney Tracey (FY, York, Pa. / Dallastown / PS Mont Alto) to tie things at 21, but Wilson was unable to get over the hump as the Bison went on to win.
Inside The Numbers
- Pollard paced the Phoenix attack with eight kills and did so in an efficient way by hitting .350 for the evening. Moreland and Lichty each had seven.
- Lichty led the team defensively on the receiving end with 10 digs. Up front, Babbitt, Tracey, Pollard and Cramer all had two blocks.
