How It Happened
- It was a back-and-forth game for the opening 10 minutes until a 10-0 run put the Phoenix up 33-20 following a Winston Raford (Jr., Woodbridge, Va. / Forest Park) 3-pointer. Jalen Pierce (Sr., Richmond, Va. / Collegiate / MIllersville) hit a jumper shortly after to make it 39-25 to give Wilson its biggest lead of the half. The hosts answered with a 10-0 run of their own to get back within two possessions and eventually made it a three-point game following a dunk with 1:14 left in the half. Thanks to another trey by Raford, Wilson went into the locker room up 45-39 at the half.
- Berks came out with momentum in the second and tied the game on back-to-back 3-pointers by Marquis Ferreira. The Phoenix responded beautifully with an 8-0 run thanks to a Pierce layup, a Raford 3-pointer, and another Pierce layup paired with an and-one free throw. The Lions were able to get back within six on a few occasions, but each time they made a push, Wilson was able to counter and pull away down the stretch.
