How It Happened
- The Gators started the night fast and opened up a 13-3 lead with five kills, an ace, and a block during that stretch. Masalyna Miller (FY, Greencastle, Pa. / Greencastle-Antrim) helped the Phoenix get back on track with a kill and a block along with a kill from Allyson Garcelon (Sr., Shrewbury, Pa. / Susquehannock), but the deficit was too much to overcome as NDMU took a 1-0 lead.
- Notre Dame benefitted once again from a strong start in the second and led by as many as nine as late as 18-9. This time the Blue and White were able to claw their way back and threatened to steal the frame. Garcelon helped fuel a 5-0 run with a kill that was followed by an ace from Miller that pulled the Phoenix within four. The Gators answered with the next two points before Abby Moreland (Jr., Sabillasville, Md. / Catoctin) scored a kill followed by two Gator errors to get within three at 20-17. After NDMU pushed the lead back to six, Wilson scored six of the next seven which included a Moreland ace, two kills from Alexis Landis (FY, Parkesburg, Pa. / Octorara), one from Ashlynn Babbitt (FY, Edenton, N.C. / John A Holmes), and a Miller Babbitt block. The comeback came up short however as the Gators took the next point and consequentially the set for a 2-0 lead.
- The third set saw Wilson get off to its best start and the Phoenix were even with the Gators at 18-all. The momentum then flipped to the hosts and they were able to end the match by scoring seven of the next eight to complete the sweep.
Inside The Numbers
- Moreland scored six kills to lead the Phoenix offensively. Wilson's attack was fairly balanced as Garcelon, Alison Daniels (So., Lititz, Pa. / Warwick), and Miller all had five kills. Moreland served up three aces as well to total 9.0 points on the night.
- Defensively Addie Hebert (Jr., Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg) had another spectacular evening as she picked up a match-best 14 kills, a season-best in three set matches.
- Moreland reached double figures on the receiving end as well with 13.
- Notre Dame was paced by Kaliyah Brown with 12 kills.
