(ANNVILLE, Pa.) – It was a tough night for Wilson as it fell to a high-powered Lebanon Valley squad in field hockey action on Wednesday. The Phoenix limited the Dutchmen to one goal in the first half, but the hosts were able to post three more in the third to pull away for the win.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 0, Lebanon Valley 4
Venue: Arnold Field
Records: Wilson 1-1, Lebanon Valley 2-0
How It Happened
- LVC put the pressure on early with five shots in the first quarter, but the Phoenix did well to make sure none were on target. That changed in the second quarter when the Dutchmen but one on target off the start with Erin Sullivan (So., Byram, N.J. / Lenape Valley) making the save. A penalty corner followed shortly after and this time the Phoenix were not so fortunate as LVC's Rebecca Lane score on an assist from Gracie Johnson. Wilson's defense locked down for the rest of the frame and kept it 1-0 through the halftime break.
- The hosts benefited from another fast start in the third quarter. Two quick shots in the first two minutes were taken by the Dutchmen with Sullivan making the save on the latter, but a persistent LVC squad eventually scored as Joanna Ehrhart connected with Claire Weidenhammer. Momentum remained in favor of the home team who then connected on a penalty stroke and added an insurance goal later in the frame.
- Paige Ney (Sr., Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville) had the lone shot on goal for the Phoenix.
- Sullivan finished the day with four saves before Ashley Welker (FY, Norfolk, Va. / Maury) spelled her and made an additional two stops.
