Phoenix Clipped By Blazers in Defensive Battle

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Wilson hosted Hood in its final match before United East play starts this weekend and gave its local rival all it could handle in defeat. The two teams played a scoreless first half before an early second half goal ended up being the difference in the contest.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 0, Hood 1

Venue: Kris's Meadow

Records: Wilson 2-4-2, Hood 3-4

How It Happened
  • Hood came out of the gates on the attack with six shots in the opening 20 minutes. Madison Ebersole (So., Big Pool, Md. / Clear Springs) was tested quickly and made saves on for of them to keep the game scoreless. In the middle of that stretch Halley Shaffer (Sr., Sunbury, Pa. / Line Mountain) was able to get two shots. The first was saved while the second went high and right. The Blazers controlled the tempo for much of the rest of the frame. Wilson was only able to get one shot off the rest of the period when Karen Cutler (Jr., Camp Hill, Pa. / Camp Hill) took a shot in the 42nd minute, but it went wide left.
  • Wilson looked for a fast start in the second half and had a prime opportunity as Shaffer fired a shot in the 50th minute that was saved by Blazers keeper Ashley Stine. On the return trip, Hood was able to capitalize on a breakaway up the middle as Ryley Backer found Dani Farias who slipped it by Ebersole's right side just one minute later.
  • The Phoenix remained in contention although chances to equalize were few. Annie Smith (Jr., Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown) had the most opportunities and followed with a shot that went high two minutes later. Maddy Miller (Sr., Dillsburg, Pa. / Northern) added one in the 58th, while Smith added shots in the 63rd and 84th minutes that went left and high, respectively.
Inside The Numbers
  • Despite the result, Ebersole was stellar protecting the net and recorded a season-high 11 saves. It's the second time this season and third time in her career she's recorded double figures in stops.
  • Ebersole's 11 saves also put her over the half-century mark for the season. She's recorded at least eight saves in five of the seven games played.
  • Hood led the shot chart by a 21-8 margin overall and 12-2 in shots on goal. Corner kicks also favored the Blazers by a 4-1 count.
