(ST. MARY'S CITY, Md.) – Conference action opened up with a rematch of last year's United East Championship final between Wilson and St. Mary's on Tuesday. Unfortunately for the Phoenix, the end result still had the Seahawks on the top end of the scoreboard.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 4, St. Mary's 22
Venue: JLR Stadium
Records: Wilson 1-10, 0-1 UE; St. Mary's 5-7, 2-0 UE
How It Happened
- The Seahawks took an early lead as Colin Horton scored 1:47 into the contest. However, a penalty helped Wilson find an equalizer as Paige Ney (Jr., Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville) found the back of the net on a dish from Emily Young (Sr., Fairfax, Va. / Chantilly) midway through the frame. St. Mary's was able to answered immediately after winning the draw and scored three consecutive before Ney scored her second, this time from Alaina Marek (So., Bealeton, Va. / Liberty), to make it 4-2 with 3:56 to play in the first.
- St. Mary's started to pull away from there with two more goals to end the first. It sparked a 7-0 run that ended when Young scored with 6:35 until the halftime break. It was last goal for the Blue and White until Alyvia Henneman (So., Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) scored on another player-up opportunity late in the third.
