(GETTYSBURG, Pa.) – Six players had multiple-hit games and
Seth Bivens (Jr., Hancock, Md. / Hancock / Hagerstown C.C.) drove in three runs while scoring twice, but it wasn't enough as Wilson fell to Gettysburg in the Battle for Route 33. The Phoenix were able to get off to a hot start with a 9-4 lead after three innings, but the Bullets came back to rally for eight in the fourth and 12 unanswered runs for the win.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 9, Gettysburg 16
Venue: Kirchhoff Field
Records: Wilson1-5, Gettysburg 6-0
How It Happened
- A pair of hits and errors allowed the Blue and White to light up the scoreboard first. Harry Middlebrooks (So., Bel Air, Md. / Archbishop Curley) and Jordan Daphney (Sr., Countryside, Fla. / Countryside) both singled which set up Tyler Smith (So., Crofton, Md. / Archbishop Spalding) who reached on an infield error that allowed MIddlebrooks to score.
- Gettysburg answered with a home run in the bottom of the frame to take a 3-1 lead, but Wilson was able to get those three back in the top of the second. Bivens brought in the first with an RBI single to center to score Ryan Turner. Bivens later scored on an infield error to tie the game while Smith put the Phoenix back ahead with a base hit to right that scored Middlebrooks.
- After the Bullets tied it in the bottom of the second, Wilson put up a five-spot in the third. Samuel Martin (So., Maugansville, Md. / North Hagerstown / Hagerstown C.C.) plated Tyler O'Brien (FY, Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) on a single through the right side. Bivens added a couple more as Martin and Turner scored off his double to center. In turn Bivens was brought in by Middlebrooks on a base hit through the right side. Middlton later scored on another Gettysburg miscue.
- From there it was all Gettysburg. The hosts used timely hitting to put up an eight-run rally for a 12-9 lead. Wilson filled the bases in the next inning, but was unable to lower the deficit. Gettysburg went on to add four more across the sixth, seventh, and eighth.
