Wilson Falls At McDaniel In Baseball Action

(WESTMINSTER, Md.) – Wilson returned to non-conference action on the baseball diamond with a trip to McDaniel on a nice spring Tuesday afternoon. Unfortunately the Green Terror lived up to their nickname for the Phoenix and jumped out to a big lead en route to defeating the Blue and White.

The Basics

Scores: Wilson 15, McDaniel 5

Venue: Preston Field

Records: Wilson 3-12, McDaniel 8-11-1

How It Happened
  • The Green Terror were hot at the plate to start the day scored in the first three innings to take a 9-0 lead. Wilson eventually got on the board in the fourth when Harry Middlebrooks (So., Bel Air, Md. / Archbishop Curley) drove in Tyler Smith (So., Crofton, Md. / Archbishop Spalding) who led off the frame by reaching second on an infield error by McDaniel.
  • The Phoenix bats were largely quiet while McDaniel resumed scoring in the sixth inning with three runs. One in the seventh and two more in the eighth followed before the Phoenix attempted a rally in the ninth. With one out and the bases loaded, Brady Bakner (5th, Waynesboro, Pa. / Scotland Campus) drove in Peyton Bennett (So., Buckhannon, W.Va. / Buckhannon-Upshur / Davis & Elkins) to put Wilson on the board once again. With the bases still juiced, Ryan Turner (Jr., Nokesville, Va. / Brentsville / Frederick C.C.) followed with a bases-clearing double to right center that scored Bakner, Samuel Martin (So., Maugansville, Md. / North Hagerstown / Hagerstown C.C.), and Ethan Little (FY, Emmitsburg, Md. / Delone Catholic).
Inside The Numbers
  • With his RBI, Middlebrooks now has 10 over the last four games.
  • Turner's three RBI game is his second since Saturday.
  • Turner has now hit safely in three of the last four games.
  • Daphney remained consistent at the plate with his 24th hit of the season. He leads the team with a batting average of .436.
