(NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.) – Sage Lague (Sr., Fairplay, Md. / Goretti) shined as she scored five points with four goals, but Wilmington proved to be too much and handed Wilson the defeat on Saturday afternoon.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 7, Westminster 14
Venue: UPMC Sports Complex
Records: Wilson 0-4, Westminster 3-0
How It Happened
- Both teams had chances at the start, but it was a Titans free position attempt that set up the hosts' first goal early in the first. They took advantage of a pair of cards for their second goal before Lague found Emily Young (Sr., Fairfax, Va. / Chantilly) for a shorthanded goal to make it 2-1.
- The Titans turned on the pressure late in the first with three goals in a 65-second span to make it 6-1 headed to the second. Wilson's defense limited them to just two goals in the second, but was unable to get much going in the way of offense.
- Westminster limited the Phoenix to one score during that span where Young found Lague for a score at the 9:39 mark of the third. Lague turned it up a notch in the fourth with back-to-back goals. Sadie Fike (So., McClure, Pa. / Mifflin County) followed up with a score on a dish from Ellisa Gamby-Mickey (So., Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg). Lague added her fourth goal on an Alaina Marek (So., Bealeton, Va. / Liberty) helper before Young capped a 5-0 run with a player-up score on a Fike assist. The Titans added one goal afterwards to set up the final score.
Inside The Numbers
- Lague's Texas hat trick put her over 150 for her career. She is now 16 points shy of 200.
- Young finished with three points with two goals and an assist. She is now four points shy of the century mark.
- Riley Lemay (So., Saugerties, N.Y. / Saugerties) was tenacious on the defensive side as she forced three turnovers and picked up five ground balls to lead the team in both categories.
- Despite the loss, Kaelyn Goff (So., Union Bridge, Md. / Francis Scott Key) was solid between the pipes with a second-straight game of 14 saves.
