Wilson Battles Tough, But Falls To LBC

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Looking to knock off the defending conference champions, Wilson gave Lancaster Bible everything it could muster before it fell in three sets on Wednesday evening. The match was a battle for the opening two sets before the Chargers were able to pull away from the Phoenix to take the overall win in the third.

The Basics

Scores: Wilson 0, Lancaster Bible 3 (25-16, 25-22, 25-12)

Venue: Gannett Memorial Field House

Records: Wilson 8-12, 2-1 UE; Lancaster Bible 12-6, 2-0 UE

How It Happened
  • The Blue and White were able to stay with the Red and Black for the first half of the opening set as they trailed by just one at 15-14 after a kill from Ryan Koontz (So., York Haven, Pa. / Red Land). LBC took charge afterwards, however, to take the opening frame by closing it with a 10-2 run.
  • The Phoenix came back in the second fired up and opened up with a quick 3-0 start on a kill from Koontz, an LBC error, and a block by Demetrius Simmons (Jr., Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Mechanicsburg) and Jackson Wolfe (FY, Abbottstown, Pa. / New Oxford). Wolfe added a kill as did Jacob McCoy (Jr., York, Pa. / Spring Grove) before Koontz pounded down two consecutive to make it 9-5 and force the Chargers to call an early timeout. Wilson was able to make that a five point lead at 17-12 and again at 19-14, but another large rally by the Chargers put them back in the set. After splitting the next two points, LBC went on another 10-2 run to take a 2-0 lead.
  • That momentum fed into the third as the Chargers opened up with a 9-1 lead. The deficit was too much to overcome as the visitors took the match.
Inside The Numbers
  • Koontz had a strong night on the attacking side for Wilson with 11 kills while hitting .308. He added six digs on the defensive end.
  • Camden Sterner (So., Spring Grove, Pa. / Spring Grove) paced the team on the receiving end with 12 digs.
  • Wolfe was busy all over the court with seven kills, five blocks, and three digs.
