(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Jordan Daphney (Sr., Countryside, Fla. / Countryside) went 3-for-4 with a home run, but it wasn't enough as Wilson was downed by a powerful Susquehanna squad on Wednesday afternoon. The River Hawks scored in each of the first five innings to open up a large lead on the Phoenix and never looked back.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 5, Susquehanna 18
Venue: Henninger Field
Records: Wilson 1-2, Susquehanna 1-3
How It Happened
- Susquehanna scored early and often which started with a six-run first inning. Tony Rossi homered early to put the visitors on top 2-0 and they added four more runs on four additional hits.
- Daphney provided an answer in the bottom of the frame as he launched a towering double to center to bring in Ryan Torres (Sr., Baltimore, Md. / Archbishop Curley) and Dean Mercer (Sr., Dunedin, Fla. / Clearwater Central Catholic) to make the score 6-2. Tyler Smith (So., Crofton, Md. / Archbishop Spalding) brought Daphney in during the next at-bat with a double of his own down the left field line.
- The River Hawks didn't cool down any as they added 11 more runs over the next four innings. Daphney left the yard with a blast to right field in the bottom of the third, his first homer of the season, and brought in another run with a single through the right side to score Samuel Martin (So., Maugansville, Md. / North Hagerstown / Hagerstown C.C.). However the deficit was too large to overcome and the game was ended after the eighth inning because of darkness.
Inside The Numbers
- Daphney finished the day 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. He was a triple short of the cycle and hit his second home run of his career.
- Daphney has had a hot start to the season with a .667 batting average after going 8-for-12. He's had multiple hit games each time out with a pair of three-hit games. He's also scored seven runs so far.
- Matthew Brown (FY, Columbia, Md. / Long Reach) was solid on the hill in the later innings for the Blue and White. He tossed the final two innings in relief for his collegiate debut and struck out three while allowing one unearned run.
