(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Five players reached double figures and every Phoenix scored as Wilson took down Cairn in United East action on Saturday afternoon. The game was never in doubt as the Blue and White used a 22-2 run in the first quarter to take control and never looked back to route the Highlanders.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 95, Cairn 50
Venue: Gannett Memorial Field House
Records: Wilson 6-4, 2-0 UE; Cairn 1-8, 0-2 UE
How It Happened
- Cairn opened with a 5-2 lead in the first 46 seconds, but it was pretty much all Wilson the rest of the way. Leah Laubach (Sr., Marietta, Pa. / Lancaster Catholic) tied the game shortly afterwards by making a free throw and putting in a tip-in after a steal by Lae Black (Sr., Laurel, Md. / Meade) on the inbounds. It was the spark of a 22-2 run over the next 7:17 in which Laubach added five more points to give her 10 in the frame.
- That momentum fed into the second quarter. Laubach continued her hot streak as she made all three attempts in the period to add six more points to help the Phoenix lead by as many as 29 before a 50-22 lead at halftime. The balanced effort continued in the second half with everybody on the roster finding the scoring column. Wilson had its highest scoring period in the third quarter to push its lead up to as many as 45 en route to the win.
Inside The Numbers
- Jewels Torres (Sr., York, Pa. / West York) led the team and tied for game-high honors with 18 points. She was 6-for-12 from the field to go with three rebounds and three steals.
- Laubach finished with 16 points, all of which were scored in the first half, after going 7-for-10 from the field. She was two rebounds shy of a double double.

- Chloe Irving (So., Martinsburg, W.Va. / Martinsburg) and Mackenzie Caldwell-Degnon (Jr., Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) added 10 points each. Irving added a double double as well with 13 rebounds.
