(LANGHORNE, Pa.) – The Wilson men's soccer team ran into a high-powered Cairn squad and fell in defeat in United East action on Tuesday afternoon. Two goals in the first seven minutes boosted the momentum for the Highlanders while the Phoenix were unable to score until late in the game.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 1, Cairn 5
Venue: Stillman Athletic Complex
Records: Wilson 2-9-2, 0-4-0 UE; Cairn 3-5-3, 2-0-1 UE
How It Happened
- The Highlanders benefitted from an own goal in the sixth minute, but quickly built upon that as Alijah Miller found the back of the net less than a minute later. Defensively the Blue and White were then able to keep the hosts in check for the rest of the half to trail by two at the break.
- Unfortunately for the Phoenix, Miller wasn't finished with his offense. Midway through the second, he added goals in the 65th and 69th minutes to complete the hat trick for the Highlanders. James Papanikolaou added a goal later in the 84th.
- Wilson wasn't without offense and eventually scored in the 86th minute as Emmanuel Colon Gonzalez (Jr., Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico / Santa Maria) scored his first goal of the season.
Inside The Numbers
- Wilson was outshot 17-10 overall and 10-5 in shots on goal.
- Corner kicks, however, favored the Blue and White by a 6-3 margin. Most of those came in the second half as the Phoenix led by a 5-2 count.
