(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – A bit of bad luck befell the Wilson women's soccer team as it was defeated by Penn State Abington in the regular season finale on Saturday. An own goal was the lone goal and the difference in an otherwise defensively sound game by both sides.
The good news is as it stands now, the Phoenix will host a playoff game in the first round of the United East Championship which starts on Wednesday. Their opponent will be determined on Sunday.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 0, Penn State Abington 1
Venue: Kris's Meadow
Records: Wilson 6-9-3, 3-4-1 UE; Penn State Abington 6-9-2, 4-4-0 UE
How It Happened
	- Both teams appeared balanced with Wilson holding a 9-7 shot advantage in the first half. Shots on goal were closer with Abington up 4-3 with Madison Ebersole (So., Big Pool, Md. / Clear Springs) making all the saves for the Phoenix and Sam Ridler doing so for the Lions.
- Corner kicks proved to be the advantage Abington needed and the visitors were able to force 10 of them in the game, five in each half. The second one of the second half ended up being the difference maker. In an effort to deflect the ball out, it was accidently hit in the right side near post.
- Halley Shaffer (Sr., Sunbury, Pa. / Line Mountain), Marie Crynen (FY, Kampenhout, Belgium), and Atiya Jackson (Jr., Brunswick, Md. / Brunswork) all had chanced to pull even in the second half, but none of the attempts were on target. Abington's offense kept taking swings though, and although they didn't score, it still allowed them to wind down the clock and preserve the shutout.
Inside The Numbers
	- Despite the unlucky goal, Ebersole had another incredible game in goal with seven saves. She now has 91 on the season.
Up Next
Wilson will be in action in the United East Championship tournament, likely as a No. 8 seed hosting the No. 9 seed. Cedar Crest will play Penn College on Sunday and the results of that will determine who visits Chambersburg on Wednesday.
