Hot-Shooting Eagles Too Much for Wilson Women

Score: Wilson 78, St. Elizabeth 97

Venue: Gannett Field House

Records: Wilson 6-13, 5-5 UE; St. Elizabeth 12-7, 8-2 UE

How It Happened
  • The Phoenix did well to stick with the Eagles early in the contest. An early Ahjinonae Cobb jumper put St. E's up seven midway through the first quarter before layups by layups by Jewels Torres (Jr., York, Pa. / West York) and Chelcie Forrester (Jr., Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg) helped the Phoenix comb back within one at 17-16. Teams exchanged 3-pointers with Mackenzie Caldwell-Degnon (So., Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) finding the mark for Wilson, but the Eagles closed the frame on a 5-0 run.
  • Chloe Irving (FY, Martinsburg, W.Va. / Martinsburg) kept the Phoenix within a possession midway through the period on a layup with a dish from Torres before the Eagles started to pull away. That made the score 30-28 before St. Elizabeth went on a 13-5 run to go up double-digits.
  • The Eagles incorporated a full court press in the second half which resulted them in going up 20 late in the third. The Phoenix kept fighting and gave themselves hope with a late run where Torres and Soto scored a pair of layups go close the gap to 15. Unfortunately, it was the closest they could get until late in the fourth when another Torres layup shortened the gap to 13 with 2:51 to play. St. E's didn't let up off the gas though and stretched the lead out once again in the final minutes.
