Women's Volleyball Tripped Up By McDaniel

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Wilson battled it out with McDaniel on the court before falling in four sets to the visitors on Tuesday evening. After dropping the first set, the Phoenix showed some grit and took the Green Terror to the brink in the second before winning the third, but McDaniel was able to take the fourth to score the win.

The Basics

Scores: Wilson 1, McDaniel 3 (25-16, 25-22, 21-25, 25-14)

Venue: Gannett Field House

Records: Wilson 0-7, McDaniel 3-2

How It Happened
  • The Phoenix pulled even through the first 20 points with a 4-0 run as Michaela Windisch (So., Westminster, Md. / Catoctin) fueled the rally with a pair of aces. McDaniel was able to answer with the next five points, but the Blue and White didn't go away and responded with another 4-0 run with kills from Deah Menedis (Sr., Reisterstown, Md. / Franklin) and Alison Daniels (FY, Lititz, Pa. / Warwick). Unfortunately the Green Terror was able to bounce back as well and pulled away with a 10-2 run.
  • Another 4-0 run midway through the set by the Phoenix put them even at 9-all in set two. While it looked McDaniel respondedwith a 7-0 run, Wilson was able climb back into contention with a 5-0 spurt with another pair of aces, this time from Allyson Garcelon (Jr., Shrewsbury, Pa. / Susquehannock), and a Niki Schussler (Sr., Chambersburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley Christian) kill. Both teams exchanged the next six points before McDaniel closed the game with a 3-1 run.
  • After McDaniel opened up with the first two points of the third, Wilson took control with another 4-0 run. Abby Moreland (So., Sabillasville, Md. / Catoctin), Garcelon, and Menedis all registered kills during that stretch as Wilson led the rest of the way. A Menedis kill, a Garcelon block, and a Windisch ace later helped the Phoenix go up 15-9. As McDaniel climbed back into the set, a Daniels kill helped start a push that gave Wilson an 18-13 lead. The Green Terror stayed within two as late as 22-20 before the Phoenix closed the set with a 3-1 stretch with an Addie Hebert (So., Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg) ace.
  • Kills by Daniels and Garcelon put Wilson even at 8-8 in the fourth before McDaniel started to pull away. A 4-0 run by the visitors gave them a 15-10 lead, and although the Phoenix scored the next two, the Green Terror answered with the next four. A Menedis kill and ace closed the gap to five points before a 6-0 closed the evening and gave McDaniel the win.
Inside The Numbers
  • Menedis just missed out on a double-double with 10 kills and nine digs to lead the Phoenix in both categories. Daniels joined her on the defensive side with nine digs while adding four kills.
  • Moreland finished with eight kills and a pair of aces.
  • Speaking of aces, Wilson had 12 of them. Garcelon led the crew with four followed by three from Windisch.
  • McDaniel's Kailey Young led the visitors with a match-best 12 kills. Katherine Taveras added 14 digs.
