(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Wyatt Tribett (So., Myersville, Md. / Middletown) registered a double-double and
Jacob McCoy (So., York, Pa. / Spring Grove) recorded a dozen kills at a high rate, but it wasn't enough as Wilson fell to Mount Aloysius on Thursday night. The Phoenix and Mounties split the opening sets with the hosts taking the second, but were unable to build off the momentum as Mount Aloysius scored wins in the third and fourth.
The Basics
Scores: Wilson 1, Mount Aloysius 3 (25-23, 19-25, 25-17, 25-18)
Venue: Gannett Field House
Records: Wilson 4-9, Mount Aloysius 6-11
How It Happened
- The opening set was about as close as it could be as neither team held a lead larger than two for the game. Kills from Demetrius Simmons (So., Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Mechanicsburg) and a Mounties error left Wilson with a 10-8 lead, but the visitors scored the next four points for the largest run of the frame and to take the lead. It was tied up as late as 22-all after a McCoy kill, but Mount Aloysius put Wilson on its heels with the next two points. Although a McCoy kill put the Phoenix back within one, the Mounties took the 1-0 lead on a kill on the next point.
- Wilson used a 6-1 run in the second to generate some momentum in hopes of evening the match. Ryan Koontz (FY, York Haven, Pa. / Red Land) had a pair of kills while McCoy had one as well as a block paired with Simmons to help Wilson take control with a 13-8 lead. The Mounties used a 4-0 run to get back within two, but the Phoenix were able to hold them at arm's length for the rest of the set. After a Mounties block put them within two at 19-17, Wilson scored six of the next eight points to take the win. Wilson scored the final three on an error by Mount Aloysius, a service ace by Vincent Natale (So., Mt. Airy, Md. / Linganore) and a Tribett Simmons block closed out the side.
- The Mounties responded and took an 8-2 lead to open up the third. Wilson battled back to make it a three-point game after kills from Saria Alshaikhali (Sr., Jeddah, Saudi Arabia / Hayfield), Tribett, and Simmons. Unfortunately it was as close as Wilson was able to get. Mount Aloysius was able to regain the match lead after scoring seven of the final 10 points.
- Mount Aloysius stayed in control and used a 12-4 run to start the fourth. The Mounties eventually made that 20-8 for the largest lead of the night, but the Phoenix didn't go away quietly. A 6-2 run which featured aces from both Ian Ruiz (Sr., Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico / Santa Maria del Camino) and Robert Kozicki (FY, Camp Hill, Pa. / Camp Hill) eventually followed before the Mounties scored the final point.

- Wilson blocked seven attacks on the evening with McCoy and Simmons going up for four each. Tribett and Natale added three each.
