Phoenix Fall To Behrend in Volleyball Action

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Saria Alshaikhali (Sr., Jeddah, Saudi Arabia / Hayfield) pounded out a dozen kills, but it wasn't enough as Wilson fell to Penn State Behrend in a matinee matchup on Monday. Depth aided the Nittany Lions as they had 12 different players register kills against the Phoenix.x

The Basics

Scores: Wilson 0, Penn State Behrend 3 (25-15, 25-13, 25-17)

Venue: Gannett Field House

Records: Wilson 3-8, Penn State Behrend 7-11

How It Happened
  • Wilson showed promise early on as a pair of Alshaikhali kills put the Phoenix within one at 6-5, but Behrend started to assert its dominance with a 9-2 run. The Phoenix weren't able to score consecutive points again until another Alshaikhali kill and a Nittany Lions error made the score 20-12. Behrend scored four of the next six for the 1-0 lead.
  • Momentum stayed with the visitors as they scored five-straight to start the second set. Behrend got stronger as the game went on and led by as many as 13 to go up 2-0.
  • The Phoenix started the third set well with a 4-2 lead with kills from Demetrius Simmons (So., Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Mechanicsburg) and Alshaikhali. After a 3-0 run by Behrend, Wyatt Tribett (So., Myersville, Md. / Middletown) scored a kill to even things up at 5-all. The Nittany Lions proved to be too strong, however, and used a 7-1 run to take a 17-10 lead. Wilson was unable to counter as the Nittany Lions took the match.
Inside The Numbers
  • Alshaikhali had his best match of the season with a season-high 12 kills.
  • Vincent Natale (So., Mt. Airy, Md. / Linganore) set up the attack and tallied 21 assists on the day.
  • Defensively Camden Sterner (FY, Spring Grove, Pa. / Spring Grove) led the team with six digs.
