Softball Splits With Red Devils

(CARLISLE, Pa.) – Wilson made the short trek northeast to take on Dickinson in a late afternoon twin bill on Monday. The Phoenix picked up the win in extra frames in the opener while the Red Devils recorded the split with a win in the nightcap under the lights.

The Basics

Scores: Game 1 – Wilson 6, Dickinson 5 (8 Innings)
Game 2 – Wilson 2, Dickinson 10 (5 Innings)

Venue: Biddle Field

Records: Wilson 7-5, Dickinson 3-11

How It Happened (Game 1)
  • Wilson was the first to light up the scoreboard with three runs in the second innings. Taylor Barker (Sr., Chehalis, Wash. / WF West) set the tone for the frame with a lead-off triple to right center and scored one play later as Madison Briggs (So., Lock Haven, Pa. / Central Mountain) reached first on an error. Three batters later, Kiera O'Brine (FY, Dillsburg, Pa. / Northern) doubled in Alyssa Wenger (Sr., Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg) who reached on a walk. O'Brine eventually scored from second on another Devils error.
  • The Blue and White added another pair in the top of the third. After Payton Kendall (Jr., McConnellsburg, Pa. / Forbes Road) reached on a bunt single, Haiden Brookens (Sr., Fayetteville, Pa. / Chambersburg Magnet) drove her in on a double to right center. Two batters later Briggs singled up the middle to bring in Brookens.
  • Dickinson started to rally in the bottom half of the inning with a four-spot on three hits. The score remained stagnant until the sixth when the Devils tied it up at 5-5.
  • With no one scoring in the seventh, Barker was placed on second to start the eighth. A Briggs sacrifice moved her to third before Wenger brought her in on a line drive up the middle which proved to be the winning run.
  •  Rylee Piper (FY, Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) retired the side in order which included a lineout right back to her for the final out of the game. She allowed just one run on four hits and struck out three in 6.0 innings of work to improve to 3-2.
How It Happened (Game 2)
  • The Phoenix opened up game two retaining momentum and scored two runs in the top of the first. Lindsey Dalenberg (FY, Niles, Mich. / Edwardsburg) opened up with a walk and scored on a double by Barker three batters later. Brookens followed up with a double of her own to bring in Barker.
  • Dickinson didn't waste any time in pulling even as it scored two runs on three hits in the bottom of the first. After a scoreless second by both teams, the hosts kept building their lead with two runs in the third and fourth. The Devils benefited from an error as both runs in the fourth were unearned. Another miscue helped Dickinson as it scored four in the fifth with another pair of unearned runs to end the game.
Inside The Numbers
  • Briggs and O'Brine paced the offense with multiple hit games in the opener. Briggs tallied a pair of RBI's while O'Brine added one and scored one herself. Seven different players recorded a hit.
  • Barker increased her hit streak to seven games and scored three runs on the day.
  • Brookens has now hit safely in five-straight games. She went 3-for-6 on the day with two RBIs, one run, and two doubles.
