How It Happened (Game 1 at SEU)
- While the Eagles were the first to score, Wilson bounced back in a big way with a four-spot in the third inning. Harry Middlebrooks (FY, Bel Air, Md. / Archbishop Curley) tied the game on a sacrifice fly that brought in Tyler Gibbons (FY, Forrest Hill, Md. / Calvert Hall) to tie the game. An error then allowed Brady Andre (Sr., Brookeville, Md. / Sherwood) to give the Phoenix the lead on play later. Jordan Daphney (Jr., Countryside, Fla. / Countryside) provided the final blow of the frame with a single through the right side to bring in Jordan McKenzie (Sr., White Plains, Md./ North Point) and Haden Hoff (Sr., Westminster, Md. / Westminster).
- Saint Elizabeth eventually plated a run in the bottom of the fifth, but Wilson got that run back and added a couple more in the top of the sixth. With the bases juiced, Hoff singled to right center to score Kodi Deskins (FY, Tampa, Fla. / Clearwater Central Catholic) and Trent Strohecker (FY, Halifax, Pa. / Halifax) for a 6-2 lead. Middlebrooks followed with a base hit through the left side to bring in Andre.
- In the top of the seventh, Middlebrooks did some more damage with another bases-loaded single to the outfield down the left field line that scored a pair. McKenzie added a pair of runs later in the frame for an 11-3 lead.
- Wilson capped its scoring in the top of the ninth. Jack Pachella (So., Wayne, Pa. / Radnor) took advantage of Deskins stealing second to score from third while Andre added a sacrifice fly to score Deskins two batters later.
How It Happened (Game 2 at Henninger Field)
- Despite a day off, the Phoenix bats remained hot for the first game Sunday. However, it appeared early that the Eagles might have some offensive power as well as three hits led to two runs to start the game. The Blue and White were able to answer with a pair of runs of their own as Hoff scored on a Middlebrooks single up the middle and Deskins scored on a ground out by McKenzie. McKenzie added another RBI to give Wilson the lead in the bottom of the third as Hoff scored on the fielder's choice.
- The Phoenix broke the game wide open with eight runs on five hits and four errors in the fifth. Middlebrooks, Deskins, Strohecker, Gibbons and Hoff all had RBIs in the frame. Five more runs followed in the sixth with Middlebrooks highlighting the at-bat with a two-RBI single to right center.
How It Happened (Game 3 at Henninger Field)
- Consistent hitting followed in the series nightcap as Wilson scored in three of the first four innings. Middlebrooks hit in the first run of the game with a single to right that scored Hoff who led off with a double to right center. Middlebrooks eventually scored on a Daphney single to left. Middlebrooks hit in Hoff again in the third for a 3-0 lead.
- Peyton Taylor (Sr., Worton, Md. / Kent County) made it 4-0 in the fourth as an error allowed him to advance from third. McKenzie later scored on a passed ball shortly after.
- St. Elizabeth was able to avoid the shutout with a double to left center that scored a run from first in the top of the sixth. It was no worry for the Phoenix as they added two more in the seventh. Hoff led off with a home run to left while Taylor singled through the left side to score Tyler Smith (FY, Crofton, Md. / Archbishop Spalding) later in the inning. Kade Linton (So., Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) closed the score after he advanced on a passed ball in the eighth.
Inside The Numbers
- Shane Bowie (Sr., Frederick, Md. / Thomas Johnson) was the winning pitcher for the series opener after starting the game and going five innings. He struck out five during his time.
- Chase Supensky (So., Baltimore, Md. / Towson) started Game 2 and, despite facing trouble early as the Eagles scored two runs on three hits in the first, allowed just one hit the rest of the way with nine strikeouts on the day to improve to 2-1 on the year.
- Jack Vener (Sr., Easton, Md. / St. Michael's) started the final game and picked up his first decision of the year. He allowed just one run on five hits with two walks. He struck out six in 6.0 innings of work.
