(ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.) – A hot start for Wilson wasn't enough as it fell to Elizabethtown in non-conference action under the lights on Thursday evening. The Phoenix jumped out to an early lead and carried it into the second quarter, but the Blue Jays bounced back with a superb defensive effort to claim the win.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 7, Elizabethtown 15
Venue: Wolf Field
Records: Wilson 5-2, Elizabethtown 3-4
How It Happened:
- Although the Blue Jays were the first to light the scoreboard with a pair of goals, the Phoenix caught fire and scored three unanswered to take the lead. The rally started with Emily Young (Jr., Fairfax, Va. / Chantilly) winning three-straight draw controls to set the offense in motion. Sage Lague (Jr., Fairplay, Md. / Goretti) was the first to benefit as she scored on an assist from Anna Gibson (Sr., Cecil County, Md. / Perryville). Alaina Marek (FY, Bealeton, Va. / Liberty) and Jill Ahlgren (Sr., Mercersburg, Pa. / Mercersburg)
- Midway through the frame Elizabethtown tied the game, but a draw control win by Sadie Fike (FY, McClure, Pa. / Mifflin County) transitioned into another Gibson goal just 25 seconds later to put Wilson back in front. A green card set up the next Phoenix goal as Paige Ney (So., Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville) scored on a free position shot with 6:50 left in the first. After a Blue Jays score made it 5-4, a Young draw control moved into a Lague goal before Lague won a draw control that shaped into a Marek score for a 7-4 lead in a span of 53 seconds.
- Elizabethtown's comeback started just before the end of the quarter as a free position goal set the score at 7-5. From there it was all Blue Jays as a three-goal second quarter gave them an 8-7 lead at the half. The momentum carried into the second half as four more goals followed in the third and three in the fourth set up the final score.
